A Prayer of Thanks and Praise
“Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! Thank the Lord, because he is good. His faithful love will always be with us” (Psalm 106:1 EASY).
Compassionate Father,
We just want to thank you. For this new day, and for giving us life! Instead of an eternal sleep, with your loving and gentle touch, we were aroused to be in the land of the living. That alone is more than enough reason to thank you and give you our praise. But your merciful love did not stop there; you allowed us to sit up in our beds, place our feet on the floor; you gave us health, strength, and mobility. Thank you, Lord!
With health and strength, we were ready to move; without the blessing of presence of mind, the most routine habit of our morning ministrations would have been impossible. Your blessings continued with our senses working. Thank you for our basic needs: a roof over our heads, clothes to wear, and food to eat. Father, may we never take for granted all of the gifts you give to us.
On those occasions when our worst inclinations rise to the surface, place your hand upon us. And when we’re quick to react or judge others, curb our tongues and guard our hearts against hurtful words or harmful actions, anything that may displease you. Always remind us to whom we belong. Lord, sometimes our hearts are filled to overflowing because of your goodness, and the words just don’t come. The joy of your love for us causes tears to flow without restraint; all we can do is bow our heads in sweet surrender to your will and way; Lord, please count that as our praise.
When the busyness of our day draws to a close, and we take a moment to exhale, let us not tick down a list of our failures and shortcomings. Instead, let us give thanks and praise for all that you are and continue to do. The ever-present hedge of protection you place around us each day. Your forgiveness of our sins and promise to remember them no more. And Father, most importantly, for your lovingkindness and tender mercies; your grace that abounds. Every blessing great and small, seen and unseen. We give you all honor and praise. In the name of Jesus, who taught us when praying to say,
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.
